There are many reasons why Mentor, OH is a great place to call home. One reason we love this beautiful city so much is the number of awesome opportunities for outdoor recreation here. Today, we’re looking at our favorite outdoor activities that you can drive to from the city.

4 Great Outdoor Activities You Can Drive to Near Mentor, OH

1. Fishing in Lake Erie

One of the best ways to enjoy the great outdoors is to fish in Lake Erie. Located in Headlands Beach State Park at 9601 Headlands Road, Lake Erie is home to many fish species, including walleye, steelhead, largemouth bass, and yellow perch. Fishing is accessible in the eastern portion of the park, but a state fishing license is required for everyone over the age of 15.

There are many other outdoor recreation opportunities in this state park, too. Some other popular activities include swimming, picnicking, and dog walking. In the winter, you can also visit this state park to enjoy cross-country skiing and sledding.

2. Playing at Eleanor B. Garfield Park

Another great way to enjoy some fresh air is by playing at Eleanor B. Garfield Park at 7967 Mentor Avenue. This 65-acre park features many opportunities for outdoor recreation, including lighted tennis courts, baseball diamonds, and a basketball court. There is also an outdoor pool that can be enjoyed during the summer. Furthermore, there is a playground that kids love and a wildlife area.

3. Hitting the Links at Black Brook Golf Course & Practice Center

Golfing is another awesome way to enjoy the beautiful Mentor weather. Located at 8900 Lake Shore Boulevard, Black Brook Golf Course & Practice Center is worth checking out regardless of your level of golfing skills. Mentor has owned and operated this public golf course since 2005, and it has been improved significantly since the city took ownership.

New tees have been installed, the drainage system is incredible, and there is a cutting-edge practice facility that everyone can benefit from. You must provide your own clubs, but you can rent a golf cart or pull cart, and you can play nine or 18 holes if you don’t want to just hit the putting green.

4. Birding at Mentor Lagoons Nature Preserve

We also recommend birding at Mentor Lagoons Nature Preserve at 8365 Harbor Dr to see waterfowl, like mergansers, neotropical birds, and bald eagles.

There are many outdoor recreation facilities you can visit if you feel like you’ve been spending too much time indoors lately. However, they are not accessible without a car. If you’re looking for a new vehicle, take a 2023 Kia Niro for a test drive by visiting us today at Ken Ganley Kia Mentor
