1. Geneva State Park

Encompassing an area of nearly 700 acres, Geneva State Park was established in 1974 and has since been one of the best-known recreational destinations in northeastern Ohio, offering modern amenities and great opportunities for fishing, boating, swimming, kayaking, canoeing, and other water activities. This nature reserve is located just 25 miles northeast of the Mentor city center and can be reached in a little over half an hour via Lakeland Freeway and route US-20.

Once you make your way to Geneva State Park and head to its designated fishing areas, some of the species you will find include yellow perch, steelhead trout, channel catfish, rainbow trout, smallmouth bass, and largemouth bass. This state park also features a large family campground and a concessionaire-operated lodge with cozy lakeside cottages for rent.

2. Lake Milton State Park

Located about 60 miles southeast of downtown Mentor, Lake Milton State Park is a magnet for anglers from the entire Cleveland metropolitan area. Established in the late 1980s, this public recreation area covers about 1,000 acres and is open year-round for different activities including archery, boating, golfing, selective hunting, hiking, biking, and wildlife watching.

With several piers and public boat ramps, Lake Milton State Park is a fantastic fishing destination that can be reached in about one hour and 15 minutes by car via routes I-271 and OH-14. Encompassing a surface area of nearly 1,700 acres, this body of water provides habitat to large populations of largemouth bass, walleye, crappie, channel catfish, smallmouth bass, yellow perch, and white bass.

3. Mosquito Creek Lake

Encompassing a surface area of nearly 8,000 acres, Mosquito Creek Lake is the second-largest inland body of water in the state of Ohio and a great destination for anglers, boaters, and other water lovers. Hosting great specimens of bluegill, crappie, channel catfish, northern pike, and walleye, this lake is located about 45 miles southeast of Mentor and can be reached in a little over one hour by car via Old State Road.
