Kia Hybrid & EV Model Lineup

Kia Hybrid & EV Model Lineup

Hybrid and electric vehicles have grown tremendously in popularity in the past decade, largely due to their fuel efficiency and significant savings their owners enjoy at the gas station. Ken Ganley Kia Mentor has a full lineup of Kia hybrid and electric vehicles that offer the latest suite of eco-conscious technology. If you’ve ever wondered how this impressive technology works, check out this helpful explanation provided below.

Kia Full Parallel Hybrid System

Types of Hybrid Vehicles Explained

Kia offers two types of hybrid vehicles. The Kia Niro and Sorento Hybrid are powered by what’s known as a Full Parallel Hybrid system. The Kia Gas Direct Injection (GDI) engine is coupled to an electric motor. Both motors work in harmony or individually to provide ideal power, based on your driving conditions, to reach optimum levels of fuel efficiency. Another clever aspect of the Full Parallel Hybrid system is known as regenerative braking. When slowing down, kinetic energy is captured by the electric traction motor and is stored inside the battery. Reduced emissions, fewer trips to the gas pump, and smooth power delivery are advantages offered by Kia hybrid vehicles.

Also known as EVs or plug-in hybrids, electric vehicles rely solely on electricity to provide power. An example of this type of vehicle is the dynamic Kia Niro EV or the exhilarating all-electric Kia EV6. Simply plug in and charge the vehicle via a standard household outlet or either a 240V or 480V Direct-Current Fast Charge station.

Advantages

Hybrids are friendly to the environment. Using a blend of gas and electric power decreases fuel consumption and saves energy, leading to a less harmful impact on our environment.

Financial advantages. Driving a hybrid means you can pocket substantial savings on gasoline. Several tax credits and incentives may also be available for certain hybrid vehicles.

Less reliance on fossil fuels. Using less fuel reduces dependency on fossil fuels, which also helps to lower the domestic price of gasoline.

Higher resale values. As hybrid vehicles grow in popularity, several shoppers are turning towards hybrid vehicles. Higher demand for hybrids raises values in the used market.

Kia Hybrid & EV FAQ

Kia Niro EV Charging

How long do hybrid car batteries last?

The engineers at Kia have designed the batteries installed into Kia hybrid vehicles to be a lifetime component of the vehicle, meaning that replacement is unlikely. Before the battery begins to experience a significant dip in performance, there could potentially be hundreds of thousands of miles on the vehicle and multiple owners down the line. Kia stands behind hybrid batteries along with other hybrid system components by offering a 10 year/100,000-mile warranty.

Do you charge hybrid cars?

Kia currently has two types of hybrid vehicles. Models such as the Sorento Hybrid and the Niro use the Full Parallel Hybrid system, meaning they rely on both electric and gasoline power. These models do not have to be charged as the electric motor creates and stores power while the vehicle is in use. Other vehicles like the Niro Plug-In Hybrid and Niro EV are able to rely solely on electric power. You must plug-in and charge these types of vehicles in order to use their electric capabilities. Charging is possible from a standard household outlet or a dedicated EV charging station.

Are all hybrid cars electric?

Typically, the most common type of hybrid vehicle is one with an on-board gasoline engine and fuel tank combined with an electric motor and battery pack. Often the hybrid system is able to store enough energy to run solely off of electric power, usually only for short distances. Dedicated plug-in EV vehicles such as the Kia Niro EV have the ability to run on electric power alone. Hybrid vehicles generally depend on power from an internal combustion engine first, with electric power available as a complement to increase efficiency.

Does Kia plan to introduce more hybrid and electric vehicles in the near future?

Yes! In fact, Kia has committed to producing seven new EV models by 2027 including crossovers and sedans. Stay tuned with Ken Ganley Kia Mentor for the latest updates and news surrounding the debut of the all-new Kia hybrid and EV models.
